Idaho City Fire Department Celebrates 150 Years, the Oldest F.D. in the State!

Idaho City -- The Idaho City (IC) Volunteer Fire Department has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating fire department in the State of Idaho. The original Idaho City Hook & Ladder Company #1 was authorized and organized on March 26th, 1867. The Idaho World documented this momentous occasion in an article published on April 6, 1867. Idaho City was a boomtown back in that day, with buildings made of dry wood and everyone’s attention was on gold mining. The town suffered two major fires, one on May 18th, 1865 and the next on May 19th, 1867.
